Matt "Number 1
Draft…" Leighton Position: Striker Date of Birth: June 1981 Birth Place: Manchester, England Height: 6'1” Weight: 13 Stone (182 lbs for Yanks) Favourite Teams: Manchester
United Debut: September 20th 2005 vs Gotham Wed Games: 8 Goals 7 Honors: None for this team but did receive the
coveted Eynsham United Under 11's Most Improved
Player (1992) Player Profile Matt was approached by a number of clubs in the hazy summer of 2005. Various offers were bandied about for this prodigious talent groomed for mediocrity on the dark streets of Oxfordshire. A promise of comedy drinkers and a stacked silverware closet were what finally sealed the deal for the Metroboyz. Brought to these shores May 2004 on the pretence of an internship, a great freshman year in NY was spent in assorted different hostelries with various likeminded English urchins till the early hours. Sadly, previous off the pitch “training” was totally
inadequate for what the ‘boyz require. The first
heavy session of the season led to Matt sprawled out unconscious on Union
Square Subway Platform. The subway police on duty saw fit to call out the
paramedics so the new boy definitely needs to buck up his ideas and get pub
fit quick. Thus far, the alleged Martin Clune’s look-alike’s potential has been limited by numerous mitigating factors such as Russian Referees and untimely changes in wind direction although there have been brief flashes of the potential that Matt once showed during his Under 11 season back in '92. Hopefully, with a dash of luck the rest of the season will see Matts poker form improve and in turn lead to a change in the fortunes of his team on the pitch...
