CPR firsts suffered their second successive 1-0 defeat of the season yesterday evening at the hands current league champions NY Greek/American Atlas. In another closely contested game, 'The Greeks' scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half and despite having the majority of play in the second half, CPR where unable to open their scoring account for the season to tie the game up. Indeed for all the second half pressure exerted upon the Greek defense a draw could have been the least CPR had hoped for after a spirited second half performance. Perhaps on account of deference to NY Greeks status as previous seasons 'top dogs', CPR started the game somewhat tentatively and the away team where first to settle into their attacking rhythm. But as the first half wore on CPR began to settle and stamp their own authority on the game. Unfortunately this attempt to exert authority on the game by both teams may have been taken too far when towards the end of the first half there was a double sending off following an 'altocation' between CPR center forward Kwesi and the opposing center half. CPR's two closest attempts on goal came in the second half, with first forward Yanick forcing the keeper to tip over the bar from a header, and again a goal mouth scramble involving Yanick and full-back Ailey eventually saw the Greek keeper come out on top.
