Rangers Held to Goalless Draw

CPR Firsts have still to find the opposition net this season after being held 0-0 by Manhattan Kickers in the drizzle Sunday morning.  Despite playing the better football and dominating much of the first half, and then playing the final fifteen minutes of the game against ten men following the Kickers center forward earning a second yellow card for a poor tackle on Eli, the Whites where unable to create that all important opening.

With grey skies overhead things started brightly enough as CPR where the quicker to settle into their passing game and Shane forced a good save from the opposing keeper with a well struck volley inside the first ten minutes.  Striker Yanick was unlucky to see a shot blocked from close range after good work down the right, and he also went close with a diving header that was cleared off the line.  And as the first half drew to a close, Rangers had substantial claims for a penalty when Dan was upended in what looked to be just inside the area, only for the referee to decide on a free kick.

As promising as the first performance half was, the second half proved to be somewhat of a disapointment as CPR failed to reproduce the same fluidity of their first half display.  Maybe it was due to the frustration of not already being ahead, but players began to hold on to the ball more and try to create openings on their own, which only resulted in possession being given up cheaply time and again.  In the end, despite having the numerical advantage due to the sending off Rangers could be thankful to keeper Ben for making a couple of good saves and not allowing the Kickers to snatch a victory, which would have been undeserved.

Team: Ben, Pat, Mark, Andy, Ailey, Dan, Eli, Dave, Shane, Yanick, Tony   -   Subs: Kevin, Josh, Ceasar
