More Goals and Another Win!

After notching their first goals of the season in last weeks win away to NY Croatia, CPR Firsts scored another 4 on Sunday without reply to secure their first home win of the season against Stal Miliec.  Three goals in the first half from Kwesi, Dave, and Caesar, coupled with a 'Polish' sending off towards the end of the half meant the outcome was never really in doubt as the teams lined up for the second, and a nice finish from Eli with twenty minutes remaining put the icing on the cake for a deserved victory.

Without playing their best football of the season, the home team where still the better team in a first half that could have been so different had it not been for a point-blank reaction save early on from keeper Ben R when the game was only 1-0 .  That opening goal came when Kwesi used his pace to pounce on a defensive error and reach the ball just ahead of the opposing keeper to poke it home.  Captain Dave made it two with a good strike from outside the box midway through the half, and finally CPR where beginning to find a bit of fluidity to their play.  Caesar punished some more poor defending to drive home the Whites' superiority  and make it three when he beat the keeper at his inside post with a crisp drive from inside the box.  And then with the half drawing to a close and CPR about to defend a free kick deep in their half, a spot of jostling in the  penalty area ended with a Stal Miliec head-but to defender Connor and a resulting red card for the offender, helping to effectively seal the result.

To both teams credit this fracas didn't spill over into anything more unsavory, and the second half was played out in a competitive yet honest manner.  CPR continued to move the ball around well and utilize their numerical advantage, and the Poles' refused to just sit back in a damage limitation exercise.  Kevin and sub Tony both had efforts to extend the lead, and then Eli popped up to make it 4 and reward a controlled second half display.

Team: Ben R, Pat, Connor, Mark, Josh, Dave, Eli, Andy, Kevin, Kwesi, Caesar - Subs (all used) Danny, Javier, Tony
