CPR Firsts comfortably overcame Newfield FC in the State Cup this past Sunday thanks to a glut of second half goals. The home team where easily the superior team from start to finish, though it was only after the break that this gulf in quality was converted to goals following a half time score line of 1-0 that somewhat flattered the Long Islanders'.
On a chilly and breezy afternoon The Whites started strongly enough with much of the play occurring in the opposing half, though the numerous half chances that materialized came to nothing due to either poor finishing or sloppy final balls after good build-up play. Finally midway through the half Kevin was able to reward the CPR pressure when he pulled the ball inside the defender and beat the keeper at the near post.
It didn't take the home side so long to get into their stride come the second period though, and after good work down the left from Eli, substitute Caesar met the ball at the far post with a clean first time finish to make it two nil. Yannick was back in the squad having recovered from a bruising collision two weeks ago, and after coming off the bench in the second half seemed intent on making up for lost time. Two good finishes gave him a brace for the day, and he was unlucky not to get more. Caesar then got his second towards the end to round off a fine second half display and give CPR Firsts' their biggest win of the season.
