Reserves grab away win at NYAC

CPR Reserves 1 NYAC 0

On a picturesque fall day in Westchester, the Rangers went out to Travers Island to meet the New York Athletic Club. Rangers were focused and showed this from the start with smooth passing and a bright tempo. NYAC's offense attempted a charge or two, but the Rangers defense proved to be up for the task and easily parried. After posing a few threats on the NYAC goal, Los Blancos were rewarded for their hard work through the individual brilliance of none other than Amos Zereoue. The Ivory Coast striker received the ball at the top of the box, cut onto his right and after a couple fakes smashed a shot low into the far post. LIfted by this bit of magic CPR appeared to be in the ascendancy and the belief in the side grew. However, CPR didn't fully capitalize on themomentum from Amos' strike and instead dropped off in their intensity. Passes went errand and possession was conceded far too easily. Were it not for NYAC's complete lack of composure in front of goal, the Rangers could have easily seen themselves down a goal or two by the half.

At the half time talk, Yuval called attention to the lack of focus, challenging the team to dig deeper and concentrate. Although the lads seemed to feel the manager's words of encouragement, they appeared hard pressed to translate it into action. Indeed the second half would prove to be quite nervy, as the Rangers failed to take their chances and get the second and third goals. Despite some bright moments the score continued to stay 1-0. As the half wore on, the home side mounted a stronger and stronger effort and again were it not for some bad NYAC luck and great Rangers goal keeping from call-up Jason, NYAC would have surely leveled the score. The last 20 minutes saw the CPR keeper leap brilliantly to lift a stinging strike over the crossbar, saving in truly heroic fashion. Another NYAC strike hit the crossbar, causing more than one heart to skip a beat on the visitors' side. However, the Whites would hold on and in the end the score would finish 1-0 to the Rangers.
