CPR Firsts' played out a hard fought draw against the mighty
Pancyprians this past Sunday in an open and flowing game that saw all
the goals come in the first half. The Whites came into the match on
the back of a winning run of games, and maintained this impressive form
to match the mighty Cyprian's more or less blow for blow in a highly
skilled encounter.
It was the home team that was first out of the blocks when striker
Caesar latched on to a long through ball to finish well after only ten
minutes. The Pancyprians reacted in typical fashion however, and in
the space of the next fifteen minutes grabbed two goals and looked to
be in command. CPR refused to buckle and worked their way back into
the game, being rewarded ten minutes before half time when Yannick
showed great skill to equalize with a powerful strike from an acute
angle after cleverly first pulling the ball inside the defender.
Though the second half failed to provide goals, it still matched the
first in terms of pace, standard, and commitment. CPR threw all they
could at their opponents with a 20 minute onslaught that
disappointingly failed to produce any clear chances, and then as the
away team came back into the game, keeper Ben twice made excellent
saves to thwaught the Pancyprians and keep the game all square. With
the game finishing in end to end fashion as both teams began to tire, a
draw was probably the fair result.
