Soaked and Beaten

CPR brought the first half of their season to a close in disappointing fashion on Sunday when they lost at home to Lansdowne Bhoys 2-1.  During a rain soaked game the Firsts' failed to find any sort of fluidity and rhythm, and although the away team had two players sent off in the second half, where unable to take advantage and finish with a festive victory.
The Whites opened brightly enough, and midfielder Danny was unlucky not to score what would have been a 'Christmas Cracker' when his strike from outside the box forced the 'Bhoys keeper into a full length finger-tip save.  As the first half continued however, the home team play became increasingly fragmented as Lansdowne began to enjoy more and more possession.  Losing both striker Yannick and then midfielder Kevin to injury before the half surely didn't help CPR in their effort to maintain any dominance.
The second half continued in much the same vein as the first ended, with the away team winning more challenges and appearing more determined to come to grips with the weather and get something from the game.  It was a little surprising then when CPR took the lead after Kwesi, showing bravery to first reach an inviting cross from Andreas and then respond the quickest to the resulting loose ball, opened the scoring.  The Lansdowne response was almost immediate however, when some static home defending allowed  enough space for a strike from just inside the box that keeper Ben got some fingers to and was unfortunate not to keep out.  And then with twenty minutes remaining the away team grabbed what proved to be the winner when CPR failed to clear from a corner and the ball was forced home.  Lansdowne then did their level best to help The Whites get back into the game with two sendings off in the final fifteen minutes, in what was never a dirty game, yet CPR seemed to have their minds on what Father Christmas would be bringing them this year and nine man Lansdowne held out to win.

Team: Ben, Pat, Elie, Mark, Andreas, Eli, Danny, Andy, Kevin, Kwesi, Yannick - Subs (used): Javier, Chris, Amous
