On a beautiful afternoon at Met Oval, Whites Reserves took the field against a “new look” Polonia reserve side which for the first time in many years was missing the presence of their club manager who at 51 had finally graduated to Polonia’s newly formed 0-40’s team. Some may think 51 is old but it was immediately clear that Polonia was missing some maturity and experience as CPR jumped all over them from the start. There was a directness to CPR’s attack finding plenty of space between the Poles back 4 - to the tune of 4 first half goals.
The half time talk was appropriately upbeat given the score and CPR knew that the real second half challenge would be to maintain the same pressure and the same concentration - a difficult task for any team when you're running away with the game. But the Poles weren't simply going to lay down and soon enough they began to claw their way back into the game. However, with every goal conceded, CPR counter-punched like the defending champions they are and found the back of the net themselves.
It was clear from the post match comments that nobody was happy with conceding 3 goals to a mediocre side but no one can complain with posting 6 on the scoreboard.
